Halo Blog Recognized for Best Practices in “Blogging Success”

Halo’s Blog was recently included as an example of best practices for business blogs on Practical E-Commerce.

The author of “Seven Keys to E-Commerce Blogging Success” says, “You actually have two audiences who read your blog: humans and search engines. While you want to emphasize writing for people, it's a good idea to ensure your posts are keyword-optimized, both in the post title and body. It's also helpful to post frequently — three to five times per week if possible — and maintain a single topical focus. One blog that exemplifies these principles comes from pet food retailer Halo. Updated almost daily, it contains expert information about pet health and nutrition, pet food, and interesting stories about pets. Links to the company's products are often inserted into posts in to encourage sales.”

Halo Vegan Dog Formula Spurs Passionate Media Commentary

Halo's recent announcement of a new, all natural Vegan Garden dog food formula generated a wide response from the media, broadcasting the news to more than one million readers of "green" living and pet-focused press. Outlets like Tails, Inc. and Pet Food Industry ran the story on their sites, while green media like Mother Nature Network shared the news with their more than 750,000 monthly readers interested in healthier living.

The intense media interest reflects Halo's own belief: this special diet is a fantastic choice for very specific consumers - those individuals who are vegetarian/vegan and want to feed their pet that way or those who have a dog with a medical issue that prevents them from eating meat (e.g. severe food allergy, etc.).

Wherever the story landed, it generated commentary and lively discussion among readers.

Media Storm Reflects Widespread Love for Uncle ChiChi

One of Halo's special friends, Uncle ChiChi, a miniature poodle who was likely the world's oldest dog (his owners estimated his age to be between 24-26), passed away on January 17.

In 2010, ChiChi stole hearts across the globe in a Good Morning America appearance where his owners revealed that the little poodle's secret to longevity was his favorite food, Halo's Spot's Stew.

After The New York Times first shared news of ChiChi's passing with its 1.1 million daily readers, others like the Associated Press, The Gothamist, and many more also paid tribute to the poodle.

Many stories mentioned the finicky ChiChi's preference for Spot's Stew and a  Freekibble.com donation of Halo made in his honor.

An estimated 16.5 million people read about Uncle ChiChi's passing when nearly 170 outlets ran the Associated Press article. Leading outlets including The Wall Street Journal, MSNBC, The Washington Post, San Francisco Examiner, The Miami Heral, ABC News, the Boston Globe, and many others covered the story.

A video of ChiChi enjoying Halo made the rounds as well, appearing in The Huffington Post, The Gothamist and AOL Pawnation, among others, with more than 20,000 views in just a few days.

We are all fortunate to have known this special little dog, and we're thankful to the media for sharing his remarkable story and honoring his memory. Rest in Peace, Uncle ChiChi.
